Growing the ARTS in South Simcoe
Arts for All through Artists in the Classroom
With all genres and styles of artistic pursuits found right on our doorstep, and a growing surge in interest in the arts, South Simcoe Arts Council is proud to continue it's involvement in one of the newer initiatives of Artistic Adventures, Artists in the Classroom.
This custom-made program brings professional artists to your classroom for hands-on, highly interactive learning sessions. Our artist educators are committed to providing a dynamic arts-integrated experience through workshop programs developed by local professional artists building community awareness through participation.
The students and artists engage in a give and take dialogue through a creative learning process based on the artist's professional art practice.
You decide which art forms would enrich your class or program, or work with the artist to create a custom program, just choose from the workshop list provided. Some are tied in to the school curriculum and some are new experiences. These include, to date, dance, drumming, set design, textile art, pottery, wood carving, leather-tooling, visual arts - sketching, painting, printmaking, and aboriginal themes and story telling.
Our professional artists working in the Artists in the Classroom program are experienced art educators, with a dedicated art practice actively exhibiting regionally, and required to have had a recent criminal background check.
Our roster of artists include; woodcarvers, print-makers, watercolorists, painters in oil and acrylic, mixed media artists, digital media artists, potters, sculptors, leather crafters, musicians, & writers, to name a few.
Our goal is to show students how the arts play a role in their everyday lives.
