ANNOUNCEMENT:
WE HAVE CHARITABLE STATUS!
By
Megan Newcombe, Past President, SSAC
November, 2008
When
we incorporated under the name of South Simcoe Arts Council,
with the guidance of Jerry Switzer, we also changed our
objectives to fit the Charitable Status objectives and
more definitively reflect our initiatives in South Simcoe.
In January of last year, Janet Clayson and I decided we
were going to follow through with this until we achieved
charitable status.
We
applied in July and have just received the good news that
we are now a Registered Charitable Organization. Thanks
to Janet and her perserverence in keeping on top of this
issue, we can now give receipts for monies donated to
the SSAC.
I will be attending a meeting in Barrie in November on
the financial responsibilities we now have as a charitable
organizaiton, and feel confident that this will only strengthen
our future growth and financial stability.
I
am positive that the application (which usually takes
9 months) took only 4 months due to the preparation that
went into getting the objectives approved for charitable
status at the time of incorporation.
We
thank Jerry Switzer for all his advice when we re-incorporated
with new objectives and letters of patent.
